Much like the other members of KAM, Matt was born and raised in Nanaimo. His soccer career started at a very young age. Coming from a family with an athletic background, Matt also played tennis, hockey, basketball and baseball. Growing up, every athlete has to make the tough decision to choose which sport they want to pursue at a competitive level. Matt was ranked top 3 in BC for tennis and played rep baseball, ultimately choosing soccer for his love of the game playing Upper Vancouver Island Metro from U14 to U18 as a fullback and winger. Matt continued to coach tennis from 12 years old to 21 and still enjoys to play.

After highschool Matt decided to take a step back from playing competitive soccer attending Vancouver Island University to study business graduating in 2017 with a BBA in Marketing.

“You never truly know how much you miss something until it’s no longer there. After playing competitive sports my whole life between training, weights, games and everything in between.. I wanted to take a step back from sports when I started university. Sure, I played Wheaty in the summers, futsol and kicked the ball around with buddies on occasion but I missed the consistent environment of being around a team and the competitive atmosphere. It was only until a couple years ago I started playing for a local 11 aside league and forgot how much I missed football. Sports have always been the glue in my life that kept everything together with a feeling that will always be irreplaceable. The idea of creating soccer camps and an all female academy in the community I grew up in with 2 girls who I look up to and consider sisters is amazing on its own. There is lots of discussion about women supporting women but there needs to be more men in support of women in sports.”
